This is what one of our recent guests wrote in their review after experiencing an overnight stay at the beautiful Maison McNew. So, what do we say about this one-of-a-kind property located in the
heart of the capital city of Arkansas?
General Area
The property was purchased in 1983 and converted it into an office building, which is what it remained until it was decided to completely restore the building and make it a “modern-day boarding house or, more properly, a true guesthouse.” The name Maison McNew was chosen because “maison” means house or home in French, and she liked the alliteration of Maison McNew.
The property now has all the comforts of home, with all private suites that include a separate bedroom, modern bathroom, and living room, and our single bedroom suites each include a small refrigerator, coffee maker, and microwave. While this is a departure from the original community space of the boarding house, it offers each guest privacy and modern amenities but retains the same “at home” feel an early 1920s traveler might experience in a boarding house. Every guest in the one-bedroom suites has access to our full kitchen and laundry room located on the ground level. All suites have a 65” smart TV linked to our complimentary WIFI. The nearest intersection is W 6th and Chester Streets. Upon entering the building, you will find two steps to get onto the main floor. The building does not have an elevator. No smoking or pets are permitted throughout the building.
Suite One
This is our two-bedroom, 7-room suite. It is tastefully decorated throughout with a bathroom featuring a beautiful glass and tile shower and a private kitchen with elegant granite countertops and tile floors. Suite #1 is located on the ground level.
As was customary in the boarding houses of yesteryear, there are living quarters for the owner or host. Maison McNew is no different, and that space is a very elegant two-bedroom, one-bath suite that includes a full kitchen with laundry, a separate dining room and a private enclosed porch or sitting room, perfect for relaxing with a good book and a glass of your complimentary champagne. That’s 7 rooms with more than 1200 sq. ft. of living space for our guest(s) to enjoy in this very comfortable home away from home. Each of our two kitchens features a large refrigerator and oven with range top, coffee maker, and large double sink. You will find a small table and friendly sitting area in the shared kitchen beside two large windows with lots of natural light making this a separate cozy bonus area for our guests staying in the one-bedroom apartments.
Suite Two
This also located on the ground level. As with all one-bedroom units, it includes a microwave, coffee maker, and small refrigerator. The space is a true treasure, exuding a sense of history and charm that will transport you to another era. You also have access to the fully stocked kitchen and laundry room just down the hall.
The efficient yet functional design plus the complete complement of dishware and tableware ensures you have everything needed for your culinary needs during your stay. Lamps and ceiling fans are found throughout, and each bedroom has convenient bedside USB and electrical outlets. The bedrooms are each a tranquil haven, featuring a comfortable queen-sized bed adorned with luxurious linens. Soft lighting and period-inspired furnishings create an intimate and relaxing ambiance, ensuring a restful night's sleep. In each one-bedroom apartment, you may prepare quick meals or heat up leftovers with ease using your own modern microwave and store your groceries or beverages in the refrigerator, or you may choose to use the shared fully-furnished kitchen on the ground level.
Suite Five
With a more contemporary flair and a leather recliner sofa. You will sense nature from the outside on the inside when you see the interesting deer art. Relax and enjoy. This apartment is located on the second floor, and you have access to the fully stocked kitchen and laundry room just down the stairs near the back of the building.
The bathrooms are a blend of old-world charm and contemporary convenience. Enjoy a refreshing shower in the modern glass-enclosed stall. Luxurious towels and high-quality toiletries are provided for your comfort. We believe you will absolutely fall in love with the historic McNew building built in 1920 and completely renovated in 2023 for 21st-century creature-comfort and convenience.
Suite Six
This offers a touch of Europe with a unique old bicycle that was purchased from Paris and converted into a table now available for our guests to enjoy state-side. This apartment is located on the second floor, and you have access to the fully stocked kitchen and laundry room just down the stairs on the ground floor near the back of the building.
Suite Seven
Hand-selected items were used to give this suite a feel of tradition that would make even Joanna Gaines say, "Well done ladies.” It is one of our most private suites by its location. This apartment is located on the second floor, and you have access to the fully stocked kitchen and laundry room just down the stairs on the ground floor near the back of the building.
Suite Eight
Located in a back corner, so it feels private and secure with easy access from the rear parking lot entry, just at the top of the back stairway. As you can see from the photos, just because this is the last, it’s definitely not the least. This unit is cozy, comfortable, and well-decorated as well. This apartment is located on the second floor, and you have access to the fully stocked kitchen and laundry room just down the stairs on the ground floor near the back of the building.
